IMN hosts conference examining securitization

Real Estate Weekly,  Oct 17, 2007

Information Management Network (IMN), a division of Euromoney/Institutional Investor, will host the 13th annual ABS East conference from Nov. 4 to 7 at the JW Marriott/Ritz Carlton Grande Lakes in Orlando, Fla. ABS East 2007 is arguably the year's most interesting and timely conference for the securitization industry.

"For people dealing with structured products, including those related to subprime mortgages, ABS East will be a very timely and appropriate conference," says Alex Wei of Delaware Investments.

With some questions still unanswered, including the performance of subprime loans, the securities backed by them, and their potential to impact the broader economy, it is wise to keep as close contact as possible with the industry. ABS East provides a great venue to do just that."

Indeed, this conference is the first major gathering in which issuers and investors can seriously discuss the impact of the dramatic events over the past few months, including: cuts in the Fed Funds rate, the bankruptcies at mortgage lenders and hedge funds, the major write downs at the diversified financial firms, and the regulatory proposals offered to stabilize the home lending. At tendees will have ample opportunity to network, share ideas, and most importantly chart plans to rise above the current difficulties.

The educational program planned for ABS East 2007 will certainly give participants much to talk about. Keynote speaker and Newsweek columnist Dan Gross, whose new book Pop! Why Bubbles are Great for the Economy explores the upsides of burst bubbles, will host an economists' roundtable which will provide a clear picture of the current economy. Another keynote address will be offered by Bill Seidman, the former head of the FDIC and currently a chief commentator of CNBC.

Other sessions of interest include Industry Leaders Speak Out: Predictions for the Short and Medium Term for the ABS Market; The US Subprime Market: Assessing the Fallout; Overview of the US CDO Market: Where Do We Go From Here? Delegates will have a chance to assess what went wrong, figure out the next steps, and explore alternative investment options.
