Skanska wins slice of $740m Mohegan Sun expansion plan

Skanska USA Building Inc. has been selected by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority as construction manager for the Northern Expansion portion of Mohegan Sun's $740 million Project Horizon expansion in Uncasville, CT. Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo (WATG) of Irvine, CA is the architect of record for the project.
The Skanska project, with a construction value of $350 million, will include a 1,000-room hotel tower expansion, 115,000 s/f of additional retail and dining space, a 40,000 s/f office building and a 3,600-space parking garage.
Mohegan Sun's new 1,000-room hotel is expected to feature a unique House of Blues experience including 300 House of Blues-themed hotel rooms, which will be owned and operated by Mohegan Sun, and an exclusive, members-only House of Blues Foundation Room[TM] to be located on the upper floors of the new hotel. House of Blues is a Live Nation brand.
Construction of the project will begin in September of this year with an estimated completion date in 2010.
Skanska is currently constructing a 400-room hotel and casino addition to Greektown Casino in Detroit, Michigan and the 185,000 s/f Casino Snoqualmie in Snoqualmie, Washington.
Upon full completion in 2010, Project Horizon is expected to add more than 1.4 million square feet to Mohegan Sun's existing structure.
