ING Clarion Partners, LLC announced David Gilbert has joined the firm as managing director and portfolio manager of ING Real Estate's new global opportunity platform. Gilbert will oversee the development of the global opportunity business from New York, leading a team that will operate in ING Real Estate offices around the word.

Gilbert comes to the firm from JP Morgan Real Estate where he was a managing director with responsibility for an alternative property fund, focused on non-core real estate assets. Prior to that, he served as managing partner of the JP Morgan Partners Real Estate Group and co-chairman of The Peabody Funds, a global real estate opportunity fund co-sponsored by JP Morgan.

Gilbert has spent more than 25 years in real estate finance and the investment management industry. Before joining JP Morgan Partners in 1998, he served as head of real estate at the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) where he directed a broad restructuring of the group's $6 billion real estate portfolio.

From 1997-1999, Gilbert served on the board of the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA). He holds a B.B.A from the University of Massachusetts and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
