GKV Architects to design luxury club in Woolworth Tower

Real Estate Weekly,  August 1, 2007

Gerner Kronick + Valcarcel Architects PC, (GKV Architects), an award-winning New York City firm, will introduce a new level of luxury in commercial office design with the creation of the Woolworth Tower Club.

The new concept will position the historic Woolworth Building as home to a private club whose exclusive members will conduct business in an atmosphere of sophistication, elegance and personal attention usually reserved for social establishments.

Once the world's tallest building from 1913 to 1930, the Woolworth Building has magnificent views of Statue of Liberty to the south and midtown Manhattan to the north. GKV Architects will create a new Tower Lobby that will his reflect the color tones and materials to the adjacent to the celebrated Cass Gilbert Lobby. The new lobby entrance on Park will feature stone inlaid flooring in gold, rust and beige tones with a vaulted glass mosaic tiled ceiling in shades of blue, turquoise, coral and sand.

Sliding glass security doors controlled by the concierge separate the elevator lobby from the main lobby.

Elevator lobby features a coffered wood ceiling with inlaid carpet, which continues into the elevator cabs. The elevator cabs are reminiscent of small rooms with stone wainscoting, mesh panels rising up the wall and wood coffered ceiling. Dedicated elevators will deliver members to the Tower Club offices on floors 29 to 51, threading through the historic building the shaft vacated by what was the world's tallest internal chimney.

"The Woolworth Tower Club is an exciting new concept that will return the level of grandeur and elegance once associated with this New York City landmark," explained Miguel Valcarcel, AIA, principal of GKV Architects. "The Tower Club is an opportunity to blend old world charm with modern luxury and convenience."

Commercial office space will be customized to meet each member's needs. Design and layout of each space will oriented to maximize the natural day light and take advantage of the commanding views.
