SpectorGroup office design is a big HIT
Real Estate Weekly, June 27, 2007
The architectural/interior design firm, The SpectorGroup, recently designed the 30,000 s/f office space at Park Avenue South for HIT Entertainment, a developer of licensing agreements for children's entertainment products manufacturer including Barney and Friends. The space was designed to meld with the whimsical style of HIT entertainments products.
Located in a turn-of-the-century building, the open space plan embraces the exposed structure of the building, revealing the original terra cotta roof deck, high ceilings and columns. Laminated, neon-like, glass panels are placed selectively throughout the space introducing an eye-opening wash of color on one wall or another. Contemporary work stations and furniture are juxtaposed with the raw, unfinished elements complemented by a zigzag pattern of track and pendant lighting fixtures. Brick-colored carpet unifies the color scheme and provides a contrast in texture.
Upstairs, the 'Penthouse' provides a display and showroom area with plenty of space for new product introduction. The elevator opens to a coffee bar/ lounge area contributing to the flexible environment. A series of curved track lights and sky-like dome fixtures light the space while some exterior windows feature colored inserts.
Employees show their whimsy and creativity in naming each conference, dining and informal meeting space with title plates. Names of such plates include: The Red Velvet Lounge (cafe), Wiggle Rooms (interior telephone booths) and conference rooms come in S, M or XXL (Small, Medium or Extra Extra Large).
