Browning slices into knife market - Industry Watch

Russ Thurman

The knife section in Browning's catalog is impressive, offering enough knives to qualify the gun maker as a cutlery company. With high-end designs and cutting edge materials, there's a lot of innovation in the knife offerings from Browning.

For 2003, Browning has a number of new knives. The fixed-blade Buck Mark Silhouettes are full-tang knives with a Buck Mark logo cutout. The scales and sheath are dressed in Mossy Oak Break-up.

The Extreme F.D.T. (Field Dressing Tools) come in three models, featuring one, two or three-blades and handles in Mossy Oak Break-Up. The three-blade Model 692 has a 3 1/2-inch drop-point blade with guthook, a saw and a contoured drop-point blade.

A new folder has been added to the Barracuda line. The Model 6042 is a medium drop point with a new silver fluorine aluminum powder finish on the blade. The Mossy Oak Break-up handles feature round rubber inlays.

The 125 Year Commemorative Field Grade Knife features John M. Browning's signature on the black Teflon coated 440C stainless steel blade.

The Ice Storm series has brightly-colored (red, green and blue) anodized aluminum handles and VG-10 stainless steel blades. The pocket clip is integral to the stainless steel locking liner. The three knives in the Ice Storm SX series have ergonomic handles in black, silver or gold.

The new Colter Bay Knives come in three models: small, large and drop-point skinner. They feature bead-blasted AUS-8A stainless steel blades, tapered tangs and Micarta handles. A leather sheath has an imbedded Browning's logo.
