2003-2004 MTNA Student Competitions

The MTNA Student Competitions consist of three levels: State Competition, Division Competition and National Finals.
PERFORMANCE COMPETITIONS
The intent of the performance competitions sponsored by Music Teachers National Association is to encourage exceptionally talented young artists in the pursuit of musical excellence and to recognize outstanding achievement in the music teaching profession.

General Guidelines for the 2003-2004 MTNA Student Competitions
The application guidelines and competitions rules have been simplified and streamlined for 2003-2004. Please read all information carefully and completely.
Application forms are no longer included in the American Music Teacher. Please refer to page 42 for information on how to apply and receive an application if desired.
Please note: The application deadline for all states is September 9, 2003. All mailed applications must be postmarked on or before that date. All online and faxed applications must be received by 12:00 midnight on September 9, 2003.

Performance Competitions
Junior Performance
* Age: 11-14 as of December 1, 2003
* Competitions: Brass, Percussion, Piano, String and Woodwind
* Entry Fee: $70
Senior Performance
* Age: 15-18 as of December 1, 2003
* Competitions: Brass, Percussion, Piano, String, Voice and Woodwind
* Entry Fee: $100
Young Artist Performance
* Age: 19-26 as of December 1, 2003
* Competitions: Brass, Guitar, Organ, Percussion, Piano, String, Voice and Woodwind
* Entry Fee: $100
Chamber Music Performance
* Age: Average age of ensemble members must be 18-26 as of December 1, 2003
* Ensemble size: 3-6 players
* Ensemble instrumentation: any combination of brass, guitar, piano, string and wind instruments. Ensembles with piano only are not permitted.
* Entry Fee: $100
* The National Finals of the competitions are scheduled for March 27-31, 2004, in Kansas City, Missouri. For a complete list of State and Division Competition dates and locations, consult the June/July 2003 issue of American Music Teacher or the MTNA website at www.mtna.org.
MTNA Member Teachers
* Current membership dues for MTNA and the affiliated state association for the state in which the student enters the competition must be paid on or before September 9, 2003.
