Bree Turner: clearly, the lucky bracelet she relies on to win over casting directors is working
Interview, June, 2006 by Carolyn Murnick
In Just My Luck Bree Turner plays Dana, the straight-talking best friend of an incredibly lucky girl (Lindsay Lohan) who swaps fortunes with a star-crossed guy (Chris Pine). To refer to the movie as the Bay-area native's own lucky break would be misleading, since the 29-year-old has been acting professionally for nearly a decade--first in ads, including a PSA-like spot for a herpes medication, then in stints on Spin City, MTV's Undressed, and frothy movies like Sorority Boys (2002) and Bring It On Again (2004).
Turner started out as a dancer; while studying at UCLA, she found work in films such as The Big Lebowski (1998). "As soon as I started on set, I fell in love with the lighting, the cameras, the costumes," she says. "I thought, Maybe I can act!"
Hollywood seems to agree. Turner has no shortage of projects on the horizon: They include The TV Set, a parody of television's pilot season, with David Duchovny and Sigourney Weaver, and the feel-good Firehouse Dog. But she's not above carrying her own good-luck charm. "About a year and a half ago I started wearing the same evil-eye bracelet to every audition," she says, laughing. "Since then, everything's been okay."
