High-rollers up against the wall: an art show that leaves stars in your eyes
Interview, March, 2003 by Tony Moxham
It may be the perfect setting for an art show featuring legendary portraits of stars-after all, what better place in which to view dazzling, largerthan-life pictures of some of pop culture's biggest piayers than Las Vegas?
On view through September 7, the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art in Las Vegas presents "Andy Warhol: The Celebrity Portraits," a show that gathers in the same room for the first time ever the likes of Mickey Mouse, Debbie Harry, Marilyn Monroe, and even smart money like Albert Einstein and Gertrude Stein. It's a show that highlights some of the artist's gambles in turning pop culture into gold, and it may just leave many viewers thinking they hit a greater jackpot in the gallery than they could on the floor of any casino.
