Interview,  Feb, 2005  by Roberta Morales

Dear Interview,

As I write this letter, the outcome of the presidential election has long since been decided, yet the promise of what might have been continues to hover over me. Among the many reasons I cast my vote for John Kerry was the excitement I felt about the prospect of having his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, as first lady--a feeling that was only intensified by Ingrid Sischy and Donna Karan's terrific interview with her in your November issue. Her humanity came through so loud and clear (and so appealingly), as did the sense that she will never be anything other than her own woman. I loved how she recalled that when members of the media asked her whether she envisioned herself as more like Hillary Clinton or Laura Bush in the role of first lady, she had the wherewithal to say, "Give me a break"--that at 65 years old, she is who she is. What a breath of fresh air she would have been. Here's to channeling that spirit into something positive four years down the road.
