The lil' blue dress has its day: to vary a fashion favorite, the news is in the hues

Interview,  Sept, 2007  by Brendan Lemon

Classically speaking, fashion's uniform is black, and the military's uniform comes in blue: dress blue, Prussian blue, navy blue. For fall, however, fashion's new uniform takes its cue from the soldierly palette--so instead of the little black dress, we have the little blue dress. Midnight, sky, Tiffany, baby, powder, royal, steel, cobalt, cornflower, cerulean--by any name, the color blue is having a coming-out party of sorts this season. The trend represents not an armed force but the force of arms: fully exposed, as in the form-tracing powder-blue dress from Versace; or connected to slinky shoulders, as in the deep-blue dress from Donna Karan. Either way, an icon is renewed.
