Glam slam: it's all or nothing when it comes to makeup this winter
Interview, Dec, 2005 by Annabel Tollman
Since the arrival of the waif on the fashion scene with her loose, undone hair and natural makeup, the beauty world's dictate has been that either lips or eyes should be the focal point of the face, but never both at once. For winter 2005, however, that approach is undergoing an about-face by the beauty industry. Not since those so-'80s days of Paloma Picasso's iconic "mon parfum men rouge" campaign and the identical vixens in Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" video have we seen so many strong eyes and lips together in fashion imagery. Faces are going for either low-maintenance bare (or at least makeup that gives the illusion of it) or all-out glamour, featuring a dramatic pale face with a red lip and a dark eye. Forget middle-of-the-road--sometimes, we say, more is more.
