This sporting life: action-ready fashion storms off the field
Interview, July, 2005 by Tony Moxham
While a large chunk of the world still views the gentleman's sport of cricket with the same perplexed curiosity given to, say, synchronized swimming or competitive aerobics, the same cannot be said of the sport's white-on-white uniform, which has inspired many a summering dandy and almost all movies featuring private-school boys. This year, the cricket sweater--the sport's creamy, boldly striped cable-knit staple--strode onto men's spring/summer runways for 2005 and has since become one of the coveted items of the season, due in part to its refined allusion to a sporty lifestyle and in part to its being adopted by, among others, Louis Vuitton, a house that knows a thing or two about creating cultish fashion hits, and Ralph Lauren, whose cricket sweater is already one of the brand's most iconic Gatsbyesque garments.
