Foo Fighters: In Your Honor

Interview,  July, 2005  by Sarah Wilson

FOO FIGHTERS In Your Honor (RCA)

The Foo Fighters' latest is a double disc--one hard, one soft. The rock-steady half of the album riffs on the group's tried-and-true formula: anthemic rock punctuated with heavy-handed declarations, as when on the title track singer Dave Grohl roars, "In your honor I would die tonight/for you to feel alive," over a pummeling rhythm section that spills into a head-thrashing swirl of guitars. The quieter second disc builds on the success of the stripped-down version of 2002's "Times Like These"; "Virginia Moon," featuring Norah Jones, is the kind of sultry song you play to lull a child to sleep.
