The Sounds

Living in America (Scratchie/New Line)
Haven't heard enough of the synth-pop '80s from all those campy TV-sold compilations? Check out Sweden's time-frozen Sounds, whose Blondie-blonde front-fox Maja Ivarsson retrobubbles like Kim Wilde fronting a frothier Ace of Base. It's good, clean New Wave fun, with hooks galore and an ironic twist: The title track eerily echoes Wilde's classic "Kids in America," with cynical new Bush-era sentiment: "We're not living in America I But we're not sorry." Skinny ties and safety pins optional.
