Sounding off: for the latest and hottest in Black music! - Cassandra Wilson - Brief Article

Ebony,  Nov, 2003  by Lynn Norment

CASSANDRA WILSON is back with a wonderful new recording, GLAMOURED (Blue Note), on which she continues to mesmerize listeners with her incredible sensual earthy contralto. She opens the 12-song set with her seductive take on Sting's "Fragile," accompanied by inspiring guitar from Fabrizio Sotti (who also produced the recording).

Wilson follows with "Sleight of Time," which she co-wrote, along with five other cuts on the CD. Another favorite is her version of "If Loving You Is Wrong," made famous by Luther Ingram. Then there's Bob Dylan's "Lay Lady Lay," Willie Nelson's "Crazy" and Muddy Waters' bluesy "Honey Bee." Wilson ends the set with her mentor Abbey Lincoln's "Throw It Away."
