Black College Queens
Ebony, July, 2005 by Mishael Shagholo Muze, Marie Camp
I am a Tanzanian teaching Swahili at the University of Birmingham. I have been a regular reader and subscriber of EBONY since 1964. Thank you so much for your many excellent, uplifting articles in your magazine.
Your excellent article, "Black College Queens: Then & Now" (April 2005), should be an inspiration, in particular to our young people. Those who become outstanding in a positive way while in college tend to continue to be outstanding in life. Congratulations to those 10 outstanding ladies identified in the article.

The article, "Campus Queens: Then and Now," is a "must read" for students in all middle and high schools in America. This would help our African-American girls strive to do well in the major academic areas, to be aware of the many colleges and universities in this country, and generate pride in our race.
These articles would also allow those of other nationalities who attend these schools to see us in a "positive light" rather than the many negative images that are portrayed in some media.
