Thomas Jefferson heart transplant program gets Medicare approval

Transplant News,  July, 2007

The Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, received approval to transplant Medicare eligible patients from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

With the approval Thomas Jefferson becomes one of only 96 adult and six pediatric heart transplant programs in the nation with Medicare approval.

Since its heart transplant program was approved by the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Board of Directors and the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) three years ago, the program has performed 24 heart transplants and treated more than 3,000 patients, the hospital said in a press release.
