From our foreign desk : Making Croatia a golf haven

Golf recently got a big boost in Croatia. First came a change of government at the beginning of 2000, then came Golf Digest Croatia, our newest affiliate. Though there are only two courses (three more planned) and some 5,000 registered golfers in Croatia and neighboring Slovenia, the publishers (Indigo Plava) have ambitious plans to grow the game.

They've organized the nation's first Golf Day for Women, a Kindergarten day on the range and office-golf events at local businesses. They've also identified 15 locations for future golf courses, most on the balmy seacoast, in hopes of following the success of Spain and Portugal.
